P-ahck the c-ahr in Hah-var...ok, ok. That's one's too corny even for me. But Lionel is indeed coming to the Boston/Cambridge area Monday December 1st to sign, read from, and discuss his new book.

So whether you're a pipe-smoking Ivy Leaguer or a rough-and-tumble Southie (or any number of other Boston stereotypes), get yourself to the Harvard Coop Barnes & Noble to meet Lionel and hear him read from his hilarious tome. It's one thing to have that inimitable voice running through your head as you read, but to hear it from the man himself! - an opportunity not to be sniffed at. Plus, a discussion will follow. No need to call a toll-free number - he'll be right there in the flesh!

While Lionel enjoys the Air America cruise this week, I'm happy to be sitting in for him.

In the first hour, we talked with journalist Robert Parry of ConsortiumNews.com about the prospect of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and the possibility that Obama will retain Bob Gates as Defense Secretary. On Hillary, Maureen Dowd's Sunday NYT column had this kicker: If Barry chooses Hillary as secretary of state, a woman who clearly intimidated him and taught him to be a better pol in the primaries, it doesn't signal a return to the Clinton era. It says the opposite: If you have a president who's willing to open up his universe to other smart, strong people, if you have a big dog who shares his food dish, the Bill Clinton era is truly over. Appointing a Clinton in the cabinet would be so un-Clintonian."

Then Melvin A. Goodman joined us, author of Failure of Intelligence. Mel spent many years at the CIA, and knows Gates very well. He is strongly opposed to the idea of Gates staying on, and thinks Obama is listening to the wrong people at CIA.

Rev Robin Meyers is a progressive pastor of the UCC Mayflower Church in Oklahoma City, and author of Why the Christian Right is Wrong. We talked about religious homophobia and the rejection of Prop 8 here in California. I cited the IRS form that you use to file a complaint about religious groups who violate the law by using churches for politics. It's form 13909, and you can download it at www.IRS.gov Dr. Meyers also talked about creeping Christian fascism in the US.

We talked with Wayne Besen, a gay activist at TruthWinsOut.org Wayne talked about the nationwide demonstrations in favor of same sex marriage over the weekend, and about his appearance on O'Reilly's show. There is a good chance that Prop 8 will be overturned by the state Supreme Court.

Our third hour guest is Tim Reiterman, a journalist who was at the center of one of the most disturbing events of the 20th Century: The Jonestown Massacre.

Mr. Reiterman accompanied Congressman Leo Ryan on his November 1978 trip to Joenstown - a trip which Congressman Ryan did not survive. Mr. Reiterman was shot himself, but survived to chronicle the both the shooting and the subsequent self-massacre by the disturbed members of Jim Jones' People's Temple.

Tim Reiterman's new book Raven has been called the definitive account of the rise of Jim Jones and his horrific descent in to a maniacal despot who oversaw a shocking mass suicide.

I'll say it again: Tim Reiterman was there. Anyone else have chills?

A while back, Derm was surfing the net and came across this video clip of a spot-on, hilarious send-up of Keith Olbermann’s melodramatic, labored delivery during his “Special Comment” segments. We played the audio of the impression on the show and Lionel loved it. We traced the impression to a comedian and actor named Michael Terry.

Then, lo and behold, Ben Affleck comes along and causes a momentary sensation with his own K.O. impression on Saturday Night Live. True enough, his take was decent, but we here at The Lionel Show can’t help but feel that we found the original first.

And what’s more, as I delved in to Michael Terry’s background, I found that he is a prolific comedian and performer with many pots on the stove. Check out his website and listen as he joins Lionel in the third hour to talk about political humor, celebrity impressions, and his MoveOn.org spot that has gone viral – so viral that Bill O. took some time out of his busy schedule to hate on it specifically. Way to go, Michael – we already love you.
