Article (2):
1st — Islam is the official religion of the state and is a basic source of legislation:
(a) No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam.
Article (3): Iraq is a multiethnic, multi-religious and multi-sect country. It is part of the Islamic world and its Arab people are part of the Arab nation.
When the Iraq constitution says, "multiethnic, multi-religious and multi-sect", it is plain to see it is NOT including Christianity. The constitution is talking about "within" Islam.
Iraq has decimated it's Christian population since 2004. Why would anyone believe that Iraq would be our friend, when we are 90% Christian, and Iraq has decimated it's own Christian population? This will be the final BIG scandal of this "war".
All that blood, all that treasure to create a fundamentalist Islamic government. It is right there, out in the open, not hiding, in plain sight for everyone to see and everyone to ignore.
I think that a point is being missed by everyone! The speech Obama gave was to 200,000 people in Germany! The crowd cheered Obama! and Yes We Can! Which I think is a testament to how much not only Americans, but the whole world has been hurt by the Bush regime! The pain and anxiety that has been caused the last 7 and a half years throughout the world I think is much more than most are willing to admit...especially republicans. I think the crowd in Berlin was a resounding message that the time has come! That the world is not going to stand by and watch any more! The P.P.'s time is at an end!
P.S. If you don't know what P.P.'s are, read "A Man Without a Country" by Kurt Vonnegut.
Great book! Great speech. Very exciting day for me today.
The discussion of the speech on a local blog was pretty accurate I thought, although I say this without having heard my main source of news, TRMS, for two days: Obama effectively didn't provide fodder for his U.S. critics while he proved to the world that he knows history and foreign policy issues.
Rachel, If you watched Olbermann tonight -- You'll find that John McCain PROVED we did NOT need "the Surge" to be at the spot we are in right now.
Toward the end of an interview, McCain said, "Col. MacFarland, on his own, basically was going into Ramadi and clearing neighborhoods and holding those neighborhoods before almost anybody else was doing that. He deserves great credit."
Remember - Anbar province Sheik Abdul Sattar Al-Rishawi and his allies among the tribes and anti al Qaeda insurgent groups began forming alliances in the spring and summer of 2006. Sept. 2006, the groups established the Jazeera Council in Ramadi, and began working more closely with Coalition forces to begin securing neighborhoods in Ramadi
John McCain said, "The surge is a 'strategy.' I was in Anbar province and met with Col. MacFarland. Col. MacFarland was implementing the surge strategy AT THAT TIME before extra troops ever got there. And he had discussions and told the sheiks who asked for his protection and he provided it and that began the Anbar Awakening." (McCain met with MacFarland 12/2006 -- not sure if McCain was physically in Anbar or was just 'mentally' in Anbar, hard to know.)
Which means, we KNOW the Awakening began in the Summer 2006 & MacFarland helped them in September 2006 ... SOOO ... we did NOT need additional Troops in 2007 because McCain admits Col. MacFarland started 'the surge' and 'the surge' was successful in September 2006.
IF: MacFarland was successful in 9/2006 in holding & clearing neighborhoods withOUT any additional troops; Then: We did NOT need the extra Troops to send al Qaeda back to Afghanistan in order to attain what is going on in Iraq today.
McCain went on to say about the summer of 2006, "al Qaeda wanted to kill them all. The surge is a 'strategy.' It's political, military, extra troops, it's hold, it's REALLY CLEAR & HOLD as opposed to the strategy we were employing before."
IF: The Surge is, as McCain says, 'it's really clear & hold" and MacFarland successfully implemented "the surge" in 9/2006, as McCain said.
... THEN: We clearly did NOT need to send additional troops in order for Iraq to be in the position they are in now and ... Obama was right all along, we could have began troop withdraw in 2007
... Because The 2006 MacFarland Surge of clearing & holding was already successful.
I know I'm not a great writer, but I hope you get my point & I'd love to hear what you think about my conclusions.

Question: How many churches still stand in Iraq?
