IRAN, we're already pre-emptive striking you!
Today the Maddster is hosting The Race for the White House on MSNBC in hour 1 so listen to her man the helm over there. At the top of hour 2, she's joined by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and investigative reporter for the New Yorker, Mr. Seymour Hersh, who has, yet again, blown the lid further off the Bush Administration's dastardly ambitions for Iran. Pre-emptive strike anyone? As if we haven't had enough of those.
In hour 3, Air America's Senior Political Correspondent, and host of "Politically Direct with David Bender," ... yep, that would be David Bender ... joins us live to discuss the whole "Unity," New Hampshire to "Independence," Missouri, tour of our presumed nominee for the Democratic Party, Barack Obama with a little bit of "very good" and "terrific" word parsing to do...
It's gonna be a goot one!

Cheers!
I can't wait for the day Rachel hosts an MSNBC show on a DAILY basis. She deserves it, and the American people need it.

By 3dogownedJune 30, 2008 - 5:06pmNot so sure anymore
Although I LOVE seeing the good doctor on TV ( that million dollar smile is worth every penny!), I like her radio show better than her TV appearances. On the show she sounds jovial and relaxed (for the most part), whereas on TV she is... well... too serious. Although she lightens up my TV screen every time she comes up, I prefer her radio persona.
If she ever gets a TV show, I sincerely hope she is able to bring the animal noises (MONKEY!) and stuff like Ask Dr. Maddow with her. Else, it would be a loss. Her radio show has SO much personality!
But who am I fooling.... if she goes to TV and changes format, I will follow anyway.... sigh... brains like those are hard to find, and even harder to let go... even if the format is not perfect....

By katemc432June 30, 2008 - 6:32pmMcCain's Vietnam record
Welcome back, Rachel.
Here's my take on McCain's wartime service record: as a POW he acquired no special fitness for being President, and POW is all we really know about McCain's service. He doesn't seem to be making anything about the rest of his Vietnam combat experience, especially any leadership that might qualify him for the executive office. My guess is he doesn't have any. Another word for "maverick" is "loose cannon", which is how he is remembered by his fellow sevicemen, so he might not want to bring up any wartime specifics, preferring to let us speculate what it was like for him living in a bamboo cage, and feeling sorry enough for him to vote for him.
Clark was right, Obama wussed again. These Republicans are beatable if you fight back. How come nobody wants to do that?

By dschermJune 30, 2008 - 6:34pmToo bad Rachel played edited version of Clark's comments
General Clark was replying to a direct question about whether McCain's direct war experience made him more qualified to be president:
---
http://mediamatters.org/items/200806300001?f=h_top
SCHIEFFER: I have to say, Barack Obama has not had any of those experiences either, nor has he ridden in a fighter plane and gotten shot down. I mean --
CLARK: Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.
---
It was Bob Shieffer who mentioned riding in a "fighter plane" and getting "shot down," yet by the edited version it appears as if Clark just throws that out.
BIG difference, IMHO. And if not, why edit the audio?
Rachel, why did you use the Fox edit without mentioning the context?

Rachel,
Instead of asking if Clark was right to criticize McCain's war record, how about asking if Clark was right in his criticism? Of course, you and the panelists would just as soon call McCain's spade a spade as Obama would, so no surprise the question doesn't come up. You are, afterall, in a risk-averse business.
You need to give up the MC chair and join the panel, because the show is devolving into MSM political regurgitation, and I can get that anywhere, even Fox.

By woundedduckJune 30, 2008 - 7:04pmSorry to say
that even though I know Rachel and Mark Green are not listening, the fact that we listeners are not even shown the respect of being told early in the day that Rachel is hosting this horror show, it makes it impossible for me to plan to listen.
And having missed the "first hour" of the Rachel Maddow "Show," I never remember to tune back in to see if she or Bender is in for the second hour.
Rachel is being used as a shill to enable right wing hacks to vomit out their talking points and it's clear now that she only really responds a small percentage of the time.
Does anyone remember that the last time Rachel hosted, the hateful Susan Molinari was scripted to say, "It's hard to be a Republican on this show?" That's the kind of thin Rachel enables by making a deal with the MSM. It's her thing. All I can say is, it makes it harder than ever to listen and learn something worthwhile.

By capn_crustyJune 30, 2008 - 10:12pmThe true meaning of Patriotism...
While distractions prevail -- I am watching the rustling in the curtains where behind the scenes the Rovers are getting ready to launch a third war -- the war they hope will frighten Americans into submission to a third Bush/Cheney/Oil/Haliburton/BlackWater/StormTrooper/Torturer and Unpatriotic term and an endlessly profitable Third World War.
We already have TWO disastrous misadventures underway that have bankrupted our country, made us much less safe, killed more than 1,000 young Americans and perhaps a million innocent civilians if both countries are counted and the fall-out from illness, privation and injury are included. How much do we need a third evil adventure?
Look at the map -- the Oil Barons want a clear shot to the Caspian Reserves -- at our expense, and their profit. Do not discount the Saudi robes behind the curtain as they own the Bush tribe by now -- and a fair amount of all of us. The allegiance of our current rulers is to no flag, not even our own. It is to the mega-billion international consortium from whom their vast wealth and power is obtained. This is worse than a coup from within -- it is the prospect of endless war for resources and private profit and power. The new emerging nations are not nations at all -- they are International Corporations and they answer to no citizen. Do not mistake this. See it and stop it. This is our last chance to stop it. The Rovers will do anything, including the unthinkable to keep and grow power. The only hope is the truth and the truth spread far and fast -- very far and very fast. It is not just our country at stake -- it is the safety and survival of the world....
We need a leader with the wisdom and the judgment and the character to avoid a third ill advised war for profit. The truest Patriot will not be the one who plunges us headlong into another disastrous war, but who has the diplomatic skills to keep us out of one.
A Patriot is one who the best interests of the citizens and the Constitution at heart -- not risk-taking, gambling, greed, and endless war waged for the profit of the Oil/Weapons Cabal.
A true Patriot protects us by reducing the risk we face -- not by inflaming hatred against Americans through the outrageous and shameful use of torture (I can scarcely believe I even have to write that word in the context of America) disappearance, illegal detention, the killing of civilians, the shock and awe of destroying whole neighborhoods -- whole countries, in pursuit of power and wealth. A true Patriot will build American security not through increasing hatred and fear -- but through doing the diplomatic work to build global justice, stability, and prosperity for the many -- not just the few.

I would have liked to hear Obama support Clark's statement because what Clark said was neither a lie nor untrue in any way. However this is about message control and Clark stepped all over it, on a Monday no less. In an ideal world we'd have a media that would focus not on a surrogate who isn't even associated with the campaign, but the Presidential candidate himself. I think Obama played this correctly, he can nuance this later, but he needed to, as much as possible, push Clark's statement out of the way so that HIS message on patriotism can get through.

If Sen. Obama has to keep stating his stance on his level of patriotism, it is less that we read about his triage plan for the economy, healthcare and the overall state of the nation, I realize that Jan 20, is far enough away that we even have time to make a short (an I do mean short), Christmas list, card included due to rise in postage, anyway, my point is get on with what you've been preaching, CHANGE, I want to see less replies to the opposition and a more positive reclaims of what our day to day challenges are forcing our as to address.
As far as Gen. W. Clarke, He was only stating the obvious, I do not imho, that he as discounting Se. McCain service, but Sen, McCain is using the Fact that he SERVICED his country and also the POW factor as his AA degree (for lack of a better group of words I call it that), in GI service, places him in better disposition for the position of Comm. and Chief.
If anything the experience has left him with a chip on his shoulder in place of the uniform applets. i.e.; I drive really fast in my bimmer, but I am not about to say I am ready to take on Danica Patrick (well maybe via my video indy500-sega).
Bottonline... Sen. Obama, and also Sen. McCain, I'd like change, I like Change when I place two twentys for gas at the loval filling station, and I used to get back a five.... By dschermJune 30, 2008 - 11:02pmThe Troll Competition and Checklist
I was surprised recently to see Half Republican and MIKE IN VA actually arguing over who was the worse troll on the blog. But I was even more surprised when HR asserted that MIKE IN VA “has a lot to learn” if he wants to displace her as the resident TRMS blog troll.
http://airamerica.com/node/79530/451590#comment-451590
HR – In all candor, I think you’re being entirely unfair, both to yourself and to MIKE IN VA. The chart below clearly demonstrates that you, HR, are merely a niche troll.
MIKE IN VA, on the other hand, is a much more well-rounded troll. You might even say that MIKE IN VA has displayed such a colorful, diverse, and rich set of troll skills that he has hit a tipping point and has actually transformed into a complete cartoon of a troll.
In the completely scientific analysis below, for each troll behavior, a blank space following your screen name means the behavior has not yet been observed, at least not on this blog.
HR – If you are satisfied with being a boutique troll, that’s okay. But if you are as devoted to upsetting people as you claim to be, well, it’s pretty obvious to us all that you’re not really trying very hard. As for MIKE IN VA, although you are undoubtedly the trollishest trolly troll on the blog, note that the study does shows some areas in which you could improve.

Rachel seems to have changed with being on the tv machine or with her ownership suck up needs. Mark Green does not want people with strong opinions to the progressive or liberal views (ie Sam Seder/Mark Maron), so she is not quite as enlightening of late. Bender seems to be foisted upon her and it is not the best volley between them.

By dpoulsonJuly 1, 2008 - 12:05pmDilute Maddow
Between the apologists and the sympathizers it's hard to figure out why I'm still paying for Air America podcasts.
Rachel Maddow has been providing concise, relevant NEWS on her program which I and others value. Then the program was expanded from two (2) to three (3) hours with a segment for user calls introduced. If the original format of two (2) hours of NEWS were to be maintained this would have maintained our daily quota of actual information. Instead the producers reduced Maddow to one (1) hour a day of actual NEWS, and life during wartime. They foist this "race for the white house" off on us under the excuse they're expanding liberal broadcasting onto NBC network which is a load of bunk. Look at it from this perspective, NBC right wing tools and talking heads are now on Air America with permission and unmoderated by a liberal voice so their snow jobs can be mitigated. How much other right wing programming is going to make it onto Air America under this cadre of useless executives? The fact that most of the useless show is bumper music screams "make news boring, thought is bad." message we have come to expect from right wing media.
I know Rachel Maddow is polite, to a fault. She will not tell the Air America exec's to pound sand. This also adds to the appearance of weakness in liberal character, since she's so visible. She'll never say anything bad about getting her show reduced by half and will apologize for the exec's explaining it away by the argument that a greater audience makes it more worth while.
Thom Hartmann is a quality show but I come from a civilized country and don't need his ad-hoc civics lectures as interesting as they may be they're immaterial because they presume a civilization and not the bullying crime syndicate the U.S. has now.
Now Rachel Maddow is back from a mini vacation and we'll see. I'm getting sick of fast forwarding on my MP3 player through the useless dreck that is race for the ware house, I don't want to listen to it anymore than I want to listen to FOX for any reason.
Propaganda works! Everyone is susceptible! The greater the forum the greater the impact! Get these useless tools off Rachel's show or I'm dumping you for NovaMRadio.

By PsychoticusRexJuly 1, 2008 - 2:33pmTalking about McCain's military record shouldn't be verboten
Rachel, I'd like to thank you for repeatedly pointing out that there is logic in what General Wesley Clark says.
I understand why the statements are controversial. Anything remotely similar to questioning a soldier has bad connotations.
The thing is, it *shouldn't* be in this case, and the fact that it is shows that politics are Bizarro world.
If any of us go to a job interview, the interviewers are going to look at our resumes and ask about what we did in our previous jobs. They're going to ask how our experience on that job prepares us for the job we're applying for.
This is exactly the same thing. McCain and Obama are both applying for the job of President. Looking at something in McCain's job experience and critically asking how it prepares him for that job should be completely reasonable.
Some people, especially McCain camp representatives, are acting like this is dirty politics. It shouldn't be thought of that way. This is how our job interviews are done, this should be how his is done, too.

Rachel,
Noticed that Bush says he is ready to remove N. Korea from the list of 'State Sponsors of Terrorism.
That's good because it will leave a spot free... for the USA.
Isn't this recent admission of clandestine actions, on-going, aimed at what? de-stabilizing a regime... an admission of support for terrorists inside another nation?
Sure, nothing new for the CIA / Iran contra.. (oh yeah!) crew.. sure it is a regime you don't have to like.. but what hypocracy.
How would an equivalent admission by another country be greeted, aimed at de-stabilizing a 'fascist' Bush regime?
If US citizens are captured, should they be rendered to someone else's Gitmo?
If another country finds (hell, suspects) that US citizens are involved in organizing, aiding, funding... should they just pop over and snatch them to face 'justice'?
Send a drone to blow up 'those' training camps?
Who do they think they are?
Feh,
Cheers,
