It's great this stuff got to you in time. That double chocolate chip is the shizzle, no?
So if you ever have a show to do somewhere near Cincinnati or Louisville, I'll be happy to get you a fresh pint or 2. How about that mango sorbet? The real chunks of mango in it makes my elbows sweat and my toenails twirl.
That ice cream store is all over this area. It is seriously addictive...
I couldn't be happier that I contributed to you NOT turning into a crab person. Zaftig is beautiful!!!

Glad the site is finally up. I was wondering if you were off the air earlier than planned. Though the thought of coming so close to hearing you guys again in the morning is heartbreaking, I think you did the right thing. You simply can't work for dishonest, disrespectful people. Look how they are leaving Malloy hanging in the NY area. Good luck. Thanks again for all the great interviews and all the laughter.

Marc, any chance you can put out the occasional podcast with your thoughts and updates while the show's off the air? How will I put one foot in front of the other on the Stairmaster if I can't listen to you? I'd be happy to subscribe at any price.
Does anyone know where old archives of the Morning Sedition shows exist? The two sites I used to frequent are empty or no longer in service.
Marc and Jim, no one compares to you. Hope you find a happy home on Sirius, XM, or any other radio station... and it can't be soon enough for me and the other fans!

Oh, yeah, it's the end of an era and Jim credited my entry to mjk last night. Now, I have no reason to dislike mjk but ***I*** am the one who suggested a chocolate-Grand Marnier souffle.

Marc & Jim, tons of love and support out to you guys. The title of my post sums up how I feel right now. We're all losing the most interesting and entertaining two hours on the radio (& posdcasting). It's just craptacular. Back to mediocrity on the airwaves (except for Sam Seder, who is also rumored to be on his way out. I heard the little hint he gave the other night about "finding a new employer". ) Sigh.

You've given AAR plenty of chances to try to fix things and they keep blowing it. Please let us all know how to keep up with what's going on with you (and Jim too). I'm just not ready for Maron withdrawl AGAIN, so I hope to hear you or see you somewhere soon.

We will be the little people you thank at your awards ceremony. Take care of yourselves, Marc and Jim and let us know how you are doing. I will miss you. I'll leave a light on for you.

I don't know if there's any hope for a last-minute negotiation breathrough. But just in case...
Jon Sinton and Air America seem to be FAR more receptive to audience emails and phone calls then they were last November. We need to be doing everything that we did for Morning Sedition, and then some.
Call or email them. Tell them Marc is worth it. Tell them you would patronize the advertisers on a new morning show. Tell them you'd make it worth their money to pay Marc to come back to NYC, or to at least put Marc in syndication.
I'm always an idealist (perhaps a progressive utopian), but I think we can still make something happen.

By citizenkeithJuly 13, 2006 - 5:17pmMy letter to Jon Sinton
Here's what I sent:
Greetings from your favorite nudge.
I hear that you and Marc Maron have not been able to reach an agreement about the new show.
I'd like to be able to say that I'm pissed at HIM for not taking the offer, but I'm afraid I can't.
From what I can see, you have been a stand-up guy through this whole mess with Maron and Danny the Living Satan Goldberg -- but I can't say the same for the rest of AAR.
This is a guy who left his new wife to come all the way to the East Coast for an experiment that might or might not work. That it worked beyond anyone's expectations is yes, due to the crack production staff -- people like Jon Larsen and the like who taught Marc Maron how to "do radio", but the main credit has to go to the man himself and his writers. I've been around a long time. I remember Bob and Ray, and I used to listen to old-time radio comedies. And Morning Sedition was the best thing to come along in a long time.
For absolutely no good reason, other than petty personal vindictiveness, Goldberg pulled the plug on what should have become AAR's crown jewel. So Maron moves BACK to LA, with the cats and all the rest of it, and is given a new show with no money. And once again, he makes the best of it. And barely six months in, he gets a visit from a suit who says, "We're pulling the plug."
It seems to me that Maron has worked for you guys in good faith all the way through. He was there for AAR when there were no paychecks; when there was no insurance; when it looked like AAR might fold. And the Board of Directors allowed Danny Goldberg to screw him over.
I'm sorry, but AAR owes Marc Maron whatever the heck he wants at this point. He's been betrayed by AAR twice now. I don't blame him a bit for being gun-shy and reluctant to try to sustain a bicoastal marriage for an employer who has twice treated him as disposable.
I know that it's a tough business. I know that AAR doesn't exactly have a lot of money to burn. But I also know that you were willing to allow the colossally overrated Al Franken to move his show to Minnesota in support of his supposed planned Senate run. The least AAR could do is allow Marc Maron to broadcast whatever morning show you had in mind from LA.
I've been with AAR since the beginning. I've been a good soldier for you guys. I support your work on my blog. I've supported AAR by becoming an associate, which gives me pretty much nothing. I bought a premium membership. I'm passionate about what AAR is SUPPOSED to be trying to do (though frankly, it looks sometimes as if you are overrun with Republican moles). But the way AAR has treated Marc Maron is sorely trying my patience.
I'm sure you know that Marc Maron has the kind of loyal fan base that most radio personalities envy. I'm sure you know about the Morning Seditionists site, where people from all over the world have become an online community in support not just of Marc Maron's work, but of Air America's by extension. And these people are Not Happy.
You may think that they have noplace else to go, but they do. There's music, which I suppose many people will return to. AAR simply cannot afford to alienate this many people in its audience.
I hope you will share this with the board. I hope you can get them to understand that when an employee gets screwed over by his employer twice, he's understandably reluctant to give the employer yet another chance to stab him in the back. I hope that the suits at AAR will swallow their pride and their need to be in control and do what it takes to get Marc Maron on the air.
It isn't over till the fat lady sings. And this particular fat lady ain't singing yet.

I truly believe that if you continue with AAR you would create a demand that would enrich you and AAR at the same time as well as educate and enlighten the politically ignorant and apathetic.

Tried and tried and tried to post from home last night, kept getting a window telling me the text box was 'empty', despite typing text over and over. Let's see if this one gets through. Been listening since MS days, got a bunch of those stashed in my ITunes; also sat in the front row at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco (I think you were mugging my own stupid grin back at me, made me feel self conscious and strange, but hey, what are fans for, right?). AAR has always been a lying sack of shite, imo, just an atm and megaphone for dnc flacks. They hold out some free candy and yank it away as soon as listeners tune in; they're just doing what capitalist fuckheads do, no surprise. I've been saying this over at morningsedition blog for months, but people insist on acting like aar actually set out to be some kind of lefty network. They didn't. I hate to see good people getting their blood pressure up because of what these a-holes do. I don't have any entertainment business experience, but I can guess we listeners and viewers don't know the half, or even a fraction, of the cynical ball busting bullshit they put you through. By SamAustxJuly 13, 2006 - 7:04pmAAR Programming
I got XM just as AAR was getting started, and was in heaven at first - imagine, a whole network of shows hosted by intelligent liberals! MS was my favorite, and I liked Al with Catherine. I could handle limited doses of Randi and couldn't stand Ed Schultz (he had part of Randi's time slot for quite awhile on XM). MS got better and better, Al got boring, and Sam and Janean grew on me. Then Goldberg started messing things up and it all went to hell. I had to buy a premium subscription to listen to Marc, even though I already pay for XM, and then AAR wouldn't syndicate his show. I just don't know how much longer I can put up with AAR. There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said by so many others on this blog about how crappy Marc has been treated or how stupid the board is to let his talent get away from the network when it needs him the most.

Unless there is some quick news that AAR has come to its senses, I too will cancel my subscription. While Philly's never gotten its act together for a real AAR station, I can't blame the city for not signing on: AAR has never supported its shows. What a waste of a perfectly good idea.

Like I said last night, Mister Maron. I'm glad you feel content. But I also hope you'll be open to future negotiations with AAR if they ever give you a decent starting offer. Laughter is important. It heals. I learned that by watching Mystery Science Theater 3000. And I'm hoping that one day we'll get another chance to hear you and laugh. Not at the expense of your honor, of course. As I said before, I'd rather hear that you listened and said no then just outright refused.
In the great words of The Chief (Lynne Thigpin) from Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego... Marc Maron... I salute you! *Salute*

Long time listener, first time blogger...
Marc & Jim, mere words cannot express how sad I am that TMMS has come to an end. I wish that you had been offered something worthy of your talents!
It's been said before, and much more eloquently by others; but we love you, will miss you, and hope that a new incarnation will somehow/someday appear!
Best wishes, now and always...and most importantly, THANK YOU FOR 'THE FUNNY'!!!

Marc and Jim,
terribly sorry that AAR has treated you so badly... you deserve so much more than this.
I guess it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. I'll miss you... please keep us in the loop with what's next.
Thanks.

By eclectic1July 13, 2006 - 11:21pmIt's the end of the world as we know it
Trying to feel fine about it. I'd have prefered to have Morning Sedition back, really. The night show is good, sometimes brilliant, but I miss all the laughter from the old morning show. The interviews have been superb. I've especially loved the nostalgia. I'm about the same age as Marc but we both seem to share a fascination with the likes of Tim Leary, Hunter Thompson and others who were really more idenified with the generation before us. So I love hearing someone from my own age group talking about these people who have affected the world so much. I don't agree with Marc about some things but if everyone agreed with me about everything I'd be bored out of my mind. I love good comedy and Marc's bits were the best radio bits I've heard in decades. He's practically reinvented radio comedy. With Marc it's more than just some grouchy guy commenting on stuff. There's some of that but Marc (and his talented cast of friends) has the added dimension of creating great, memorable comedy bits that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Marc, if you don't pursue radio in the future, with or without Air America, it's everyone's loss.

Really you guys should do a 2 or 3 hour weekly podcast. Just leave it the way it is and put it up on your site and Itunes.

By GodForHireJuly 13, 2006 - 11:47pmOnwards and upwards my friend.
Maron,
I just listened to last night's show on podcast. About your decision to refuse AAR's lukewarm offer, I say good for you man. It's a hard pill for us fans to swallow, but it was the right stance to take. It was getting frikkin' ridiculous.
I'm gonna miss the show badly (those months in-between Sedition and MMS were rough), but I'd feel even worse if you continued with AAR out of a sense of obligation, but were were stuck in an arrangement that made you feel unhappy and undervalued. You deserve much better.
You obviously worked really hard to make something special out of nothing (twice), and it really was special. But without the support of the network it was continually undermined. Sure AAR always has money problems, but the real issue is that AAR keeps treating their talent like pawns. It's only right that they're asked to pay the price.
As much as I still like some of the other shows on the network, they've moved so far away from the earlier format that was all about providing community, culture and information in an entertaining way. That's the Air America that sucked me in and made me feel like a part of something bigger. But now thanks to business decisions to focus strictly on serious talk radio, it's turned into a wonky talking-head station. That leaves no place for shows like yours that serve to balance it out.
I'll look forward to what's next. Even if it's just a podcast about cats I'm totally behind you dude. How about doing some standup dates in Canada? I've been able to convert a few people by lending out your stand-up CDs. If I keep it up, you could have an army of fans up here. Just give me a few more years.

Most people commenting here have a lot of familiarity with blogging and the independence that this form of expression gives us. Well, this radio thingy trades in any hints of independence for ruthless business decisions. I keep on thinking on how I would feel if someone snapped their fingers and took away my blogging privileges like that. And that's basically what they have done to the MM show crew, ripping a mighty fine auditory blog out of our sensory realm. This stuff will continue to happen until we the sheeple take back the public airwaves.

Is there any truth to Randi playing Marc's theme on her show?
Did she comment about it afterwards?

I never considered MS or TMMS as just "funny"--they were full of breaking topics. AAR promotes Al (or Al does it if they don't) as funny, which he rarely is after the first time he tells a joke.
But, however you can gain Maron fans, I'm for it!

Marc- rip him a new one tomorrow. Don't let unfunny deadair dick dance on your grave. You must have really jerked his chain (not that it's hard for a jerk to have his chain jerked)
Oh, and FUCK AAR for running those promos. Were they ever sincere?
