Bombs Kill Dozens in Baghdad

News:
Explosions this morning in Baghdad left at least 56 dead and dozens more wounded. The casualties included those killed in a blast targeting a Shiite mosque, as well at least 15 who died in a suicide attack on the Interior Ministry’s major crimes unit, which had been charged with investigating the ongoing kidnapping and executions of Sunni Arab men. More deaths were reported in the city as a series of roadside bombs, apparently targeting police patrols, were detonated. Also today in Iraq, multinational forces rescued three aid workers—two Canadians and one from the UK—who had been held captive for four months. Earlier this month, the bullet-riddled body of their fourth colleague, American Tom Fox, was found. Despite this bit of good news, it doesn't diminish the fact that thousands of Iraqis and at least 280 foreigners have been held hostage in the country since the U.S. invaded in 2003.

Iraq had a free and open election. They are being trained to provide their own military forces. People are not afraid to speak out about their government without being locked up or killed. Insurgents are hard pressed to start a civil war and it isn't working. These insurgents do not want to see a free Iraq. Making progress? I believe they have. War is not a cake walk. History will decide if this fight was worth the losses.

How about...I don't know...WWII. That was over in less time than we have been in Iraq. Admittedly (spelling?), we were in Germany and Japan for years after, but even you have to admit that neither country was as bad as Iraq. I could be mistaken, but I don't remeber ever reading about roadside bombs, blown up mosques, mass graves, or death squads in my history classes. (Although, we didn't have Negropante there) And no, I didn't attend one of our "horrible liberal indoctrinating" public schools.

If abortion really is murder, as many on the right suggest, then the penalty in S.D. wouldn't be 5 years for the Doctor performing the abortion, and NO punishment for the mother.

The right's problem (well, one of them, at least) is that it's more important to them to win their argument than to actually be right. Bush is a perfect example. He doesn't care if he's wrong, as long as he wins.

Otherwise you would have heard the term "asynchronous warfare". It is a tactic employed by smaller and lower-resource groups to fight larger and thusly more vulnerable groups.

The difference between it and "guerilla warfare" is that guerilla warfare is only engaged against opponents you know to be INCOMPETENT at a counter-engagement activity.

In other words: attacking civilian targets and using vehicle-bomb tactics are a sign of RESPECT for our military capacity. They purposefully use these kinds of tactics becasue they KNOW that if they tried any sort of open engagement that we would tear them into tiny bite-sized pieces.
