News:
Representative Tom DeLay, the onetime House majority leader who was forced to leave his position because of his close ties to lobbyist Jack Abramoff, has decided to abandon his bid for reelection and quit the House altogether. Though the formal announcement didn't come until today, word of his decision quickly spread last night, with DeLay, playing the innocent martyr to the last, citing a desire to keep his seat from falling into Democrat hands. Last week, Tom Rudy, a former top aide to DeLay, pled guilty to conspiring with Jack Abramoff to influence legislation; another former DeLay staffer, Michael Scanlon, pled to similar charges last fall. The federal probe that ensared the two men is moving increasingly closer to DeLay, who faces separate charges of money laundering in Texas.

Blast from the Past
http://crooksandliars.com/
Any talking heads doubting whether "Gekko Jack" and the Hammer are pals should just watch this circle jerk introduction by Abramoff at the 2002, College Republican Conference.
Jack: Never before has an individual who has been steadfast to our principles-risen as high as Tom Delay.
Jack: Tom Delay is who all of us want to be when we grow up.
What principles are those Jack? Using Terri' Schiavo's ravaged body as a political tool, or maybe the Island of Saipan affair that Brian Ross revealed on 20/20? (Al Franken's book has a chapter dedicated to this) Are these the high moral principles that all those impressionable "College Republicans" should aspire towards.

Sandy Burger has taken top secret documents in order to save himself and the Clinton adimistration from their failures that brought on September 11, 2001. He stuffed the documents in his pants and socks. Now, some of the documents have come up missing. We feel that Mr. Burger's abuses of National Security and gross abuse of his power, is treason. We are asking you, Mr. Ashcroft, to charge Mr. Burger and those who knew what he did and not bringing this to the forefront with treason. We, the Undersigned, understand that this is a very serious charge that is punishable by death. However, this is a VERY serious breech of National Securty, he must be made example of, so people who have the same idea will not repeat the same mistake.

"why they haven't been able to elect a two-term president more than three times in the last 100 years"
It's true, the Dems have only done it 3 times. But effectively, we've done it 6 times. Wilson (1913-1921). FDR served from 1933-1945 (4 terms), was succeeded by Truman, who was re-elected and nearly served two FULL terms). Kennedy served from 1961-63, was suceeded by Johnson, who was then re-elected. And of course, your favorite, Bill Clinton (1993-2001). Dems. have had the White House 48 out of the last 100 years, using your yardstick. Hardly a blow-out by the Republicans.
And you know what? I don't care. Fact is, your party is in deep shit. DeLay is just the tip of the iceberg, and you know it, whether you'd like to admit it or not. Abramoff will continue to sing, Plamegate won't go away, Katrinagate won't go away, WMDgate won't go away, and NSAgate won't go away. Delude yourself all you want into thinking that everything is sunshine and butterflies for the Repubs, but we all know the truth of the matter.
Sad thing is, the party of Lincoln was once a noble party, and it has been perverted by these fascists who call themselves Republicans. And then there are those who blindly follow them, goose-stepping in time with the beat of "Onward Christian Soldiers".
As for "getting the votes"... The Repubs. are toast in November. You know it, I know it, and deep down, the Republican leadership knows it.
Keep telling yourself otherwise... just click your heels together...

Forced Abortions & Sweatshops: A Look at Jack Abramoff's Ties to the South Pacific Island of Saipan & How Tom DeLay Became An Advocate for Sweatshop Factory Owners
AMY GOODMAN: I want to go to the issue of forced abortion, which is astounding given Tom DeLay's stand on abortion. Can you talk about that?
BRIAN ROSS: Well, it's completely counter to anything that DeLay or most Republicans seem to espouse, that was, on that island there were forced abortions. And the workers there who are all young women, who often had to pay to get these jobs, knew the rules. And they were barred from having boyfriends and certainly barred from having children if they became pregnant. They knew where to go, and there were a few essential back-alley abortion mills on the island. And that's where these young Chinese women went in order to keep their jobs. And that was the deal. That's part of the situation that was essentially endorsed by DeLay when he fought the laws. The laws were established essentially exempting Saipan, although it is a U.S. territory, from U.S. labor laws.

By mtmeggidoApril 4, 2006 - 7:35pmOpposed to....
....pacifism, eh?
pac·i·fism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ps-fzm)
n.
The belief that disputes between nations should and can be settled peacefully.
Opposition to war or violence as a means of resolving disputes.
Such opposition demonstrated by refusal to participate in military action.
Sooooo, to what part of pacifism to you object?....let me guess...the refusal to participate in military action, right? Got any problem with settling disputes between nations peacefully as the FIRST CHOICE?
"Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear."

By rocklibApril 4, 2006 - 1:23pmAre you in the third grade?
"Got any problem with settling disputes between nations peacefully as the FIRST CHOICE?" No. and nobody is saying that, nit-wit. Diplomacy is the first measure. War is the final measure. War is politics. It's the final solution when diplomacy fails. If war is not an option, you are impotent and will die. Not every country/culture grew up singing koom-by-ah like you did.
Pacifism is a cartoon utopian ideal for bedwetting liberal morons. It will make you a slave, or dead or both. Pacifism would be the quickest way to bring down the USA.

....fulfill your expectation of "Diplomacy is the first measure. War is the final measure" in his approach to Iraq? Where was the diplomacy? Issuing ultimata and blustering doesn't count as diplomacy, I don't figure.
And no, I'm not in the third grade. Anymore. So we can't meet on the playground today. Enjoy your recess.
Pacifism overwhelmed the uberpowerful British Empire and created the world's largest democracy...India. Pretty powerful stuff, that pacifism.
