News:
Iran has begun the successful enrichment of uranium, it was announced today by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Ahmadinejad stressed that the enrichment was only to the 3.5% level, a low-grade level used to generate electricity; if enrichment continues to higher levels, it could potentially be used to develop a nuclear weapon, which the White House contends is the country’s true intent. The announcement came about two weeks into the 30 days the U.N. Security Council had granted Iran to stop all efforts towards enrichment, warning of unspecified consequences if it refused. Bush administration officials, still trying to downplay published reports of accelerated plans to attack Iran, had little comment, with White House spokesman Scott McClellan saying only that Iran is “moving in the wrong direction”.

Do the neo-cons REALLY expect Iran (or anybody else for that matter) to STOP trying to get nukes ... when we threaten them on a regular basis? I mean, isn't that kind of demotivating?
Not that I have any affection for the Iranian government, but they aren't the only country with an extremist nutjob for a leader!
Or maybe it's one of those "Through the Looking Glass" bits of neocon reverse propaganda. The don't really want Iran to stop trying to get nukes, because then we'll have an excuse to attack them.
Oh this just gets scarier and scarier!

By GogiApril 11, 2006 - 4:14pmAgreed.....
...I don't think we'll attack Iran, as it seems that the military might stage a coup if the administration tries to push them into Iran.
But....
We are making plans, just in case, to move someplace safer. I think Hawaii might be off the Iranians radar screen, but Pearl Harbor IS just a mile down the hill. So......
I do have friends in Australia and New Zealand. Be nice to visit them. As good an excuse as I need.

By rocklibApril 11, 2006 - 4:34pmYou've got an interesting point...
Sort of the chicken & egg scenario... Were the Iranians pursuing nuclear weapons because of our military threat to them, or are we threatening them militarily because of their nuclear weapons ambitions?
And again, the hypocrisy of the U.S. shoving the non-proliferation treaty down Iran's throat, while we simultaneously announce a program to develop MORE nuclear weapons. It's insane.
And Bushco is toying with the idea of removing the Iranian nuclear threat THROUGH THE USE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS?????
If anybody had written this whole f*cking mess as a script, no producer would want it... it's too unbelievable.

No, and not the day before, either. Iraq's nuclear plant was destroyed by an Israeli air strike in the 80s. Sooooo, not being stupid, Iran has built some of it's facilities underground. So what?
"The thing that scares me is people like you."
ooooooo....I'm sticking my toungue out at you and yelling wooga, wooga, wooga.

No, they haven't loved us for a long, long time. Since we stuck them with the Shah Palavi.
"Iran was always a threat to us."
Oh REALLY? Just HOW were they a threat to us?
"They have the ability now to shut down the The Strait of Hormuz down causing an economical crises world wide. "
Hey Sparky, WE also have the ability to shut down said strait. Have we done it? Have the Iranians? The Saudis can also shut it down, or just stop pumping oil for a year. Should we attack the Saudis? Same justification.....so SHOULD WE? Not to mention that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. So, lets FIRST bang the war drum against Saudi Arabia.....a MUCH bigger and PROVEN threat to US. Whaddaya say?

No, I admire their spunk and think they should simply claim the west bank and Golan Heights as spoils of war, or more appropriately, as reparations for war losses in all of the Arab-instigated wars launched against them. I think that the religiously sensitive cities should be turned over to the UN as world historical sites, administered by the Japanese. Israel would move it's political capitol back to Tel Aviv, and no one would 'own' the 'holy' sites. The world should then collect a large amount of money and buy the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt and give it to the Palestinians for their nation, added to the Gaza strip. (What price mideast peace?) They Palestinians would then have enough land for their population and they would have access to the Med. and Red sea. Israel would have defensible borders. Egypt would have enough money to make the western desert into a huge oasis, and become the model for modern Arab progress.

WASHINGTON, Mar 28 (IPS) - The George W. The same neoconservative veto power also prevented the administration from adopting any official policy statement on Iran, those same officials say...........
