Last Show

By Marc Maron

Well, Sheeple-

1-877-520-1150 should work tonight. This is our first and last remote. It might not be a smooth as we'd like. We'll give it a try.

This is it. This is really the end for me at Air America Radio it seems. What a prolonged and painful journey this has been. The great thing about the entire smear of time that has been the last couple of years is that I had such an amazing bunch of listeners and amazing staffs on both shows. I also seemed to have learned to do radio a bit along the way. I do want to thank all of you who are reading this as well as Jim Earl, Bill Kollar, Brendan McDonald, all the amazing perfromers that have appeared on the show and all the guests. I'll try to keep you informed as to what is happening. I guess until I get a new site up you can find me on myspace. AND, in all honesty, I want to thank Air America Radio for giving me the oppurtunity to speak out and entertain without ever getting involved in content or telling me what to say.

That's that. Firetruck!

Love,
Maron

Same form here, too. But I replied anyhow.

Thank you so much for writing, Mr. Horn. I am impressed that you would take the time to do so.
There's something, however, that I just don't get.
Why was there no discernable effort for AAR to support The Marc Maron Show? I understand syndication takes resources, but AAR never even bothered to simply put the show on it's alternate stream ala Thom Hartman. Many people had severe problems streaming KTLK, and many preemptions. Only the most enthusiastic could hang in through the difficulties of simply accessing the show.
Who is at fault for leaving the show "only web-based to the network"? It really seemed that AAR countenanced failure. How could you possibly have expected Marc to feel comfortable with a new offer after what amounts to abandonment of the current venture?
Are Springer's numbers working for you? I have no idea, but I can't stand his show, nor can the many AAR listeners who I know. That slot would have been, IMO, perfect for Marc. Many AAR shows originate outside your NY infrastructure, and 6AM in L.A. would have made it possible for Marc to get guests there, where he already had a great show lacking only accessability.
I'm certain you are acting in the interest of your investors, but the audacious spirit with which AAR was created is now lost. The enthusiasm of your listeners is slipping away. Some are now actually depressed. AAR is in it's own little quagmire. What was once a venture is now just a business fixated on it's bottom line.
It's hard to get excited about that.
