Congresswoman (and VP Wannabee) Heather Wilson has been making the rounds this week on behalf of McCain snarking that Obama's position on getting the US and Russia off of ICBM Hairtrigger status is "a great idea but was done 20 years ago." This, she says is evidence of Obama's being a babe in the scary woods of International defense policy.

Problem is, according the many sources I easily found (Including the Christian Science Monitor) we are still on hair trigger alert and both governments have dragged their feet on stepping down. Mistrust between superpowers? Really?

Although there was movement during the Clinton Administration to establish a more layered system of alerts, no firm change resulted. Given Mr. Putin's powergrab, the situation is worthy of attention.

Could it be that Ms. Wilson thinks she can pluck something that sounds complex and obscure out of Obama's platform, lie about it, and nobody will look it up? Can it be (aw, SHUCKS!) that McCain's demographic can be assured not to employ "the Google" and they think that scaring Floria by throwing around "facts" about ICBM's is the new code for "secret Muslim?"
