Bush Suspends Prevailing Wage in Disaster Areas

In one of the first signs that the president intends to use hurricane Katrina to accomplish otherwise unobtainable conservative goals, he used his executive power to suspend rules requiring that federal contractors rebuilding after the hurricane must  pay workers the prevailing wage. Since many of those rebuilding will be those who were affected by the storm, the effect will be to lower wages for those most in need of decent jobs.
